Today we succesfully placed recycling labels on bins throughout Academic buildings on campus. These buildings include the Albin O. Kuhn Library atrium, Meyerhoff Chemistry Building, Biological Sciences Building, Mathematics/Psychology Building, Sherman Hall, Sondheim Hall, Administration, ITE, Engineering, Fine Arts Building and the PAHB. We’ll definitely be doing this again in the upcoming months. Also, get ready for BoxMania this Thursday on Erickson Field. ETF members will be there all day to help with the Fort construction, if interested in volunteering please email Sheena.

BoxMania is part of UMBC’s RecycleMania- an effort to promote increased recycling and decreased waste on campus!

Who: UMBC’s facilities, sustainability and eco-ambassadors are partnering with student groups, departments, and more to build BoxMania, a RecycleMania promotion effort!

What: Recycled cardboard boxes will be used to construct a unique UMBC Box Fort

Why: To raise awareness on the amount of cardboard waste generated, to generate excitement, collaboration and creativity around the issues of waste and recycling, and to generate involvement in the RecycleMania Competition

When: The BoxMania Fort Party will take place on Thursday, March 12th. Volunteers will build the fort on March 12th between 9am and 5pm.

Where: Erickson Field, UMBC

What is RecycleMania?

RecycleMania is a competition between universities- to achieve the highest recycling rates and waste rates over 8 weeks. For more information about the competition visit recyclemaniacs.org.

UMBC’s Goals

In 2014 UMBC was ranked in the top 100 of 273 participating universities and we want to continue towards the top of the heap. To accomplish this Sustainability Coordinators on campus are raising awareness, improving signage and labeling, and hosting events and competitions. We are seeking partnerships with all aspects of campus including faculty, staff, clubs, residence halls, frats, and other student orgs will be participating over the course of the competition to promote sustainability on campus.

Hey ETF,

We have our second meeting tomorrow! Feel free to bring your friends and your lunch as we discuss with Recycle For Real‘s Field Coordinator, Emily Brandon, on ways to increase recycling and reuse in Maryland!

Be prepared to join in on the conversation, as well as to receive updates on Teams Air, Earth, Water and (new) Fire.
